Employee Reward & Recognition Programs
"Reward" and "Recognition": Not the Same, but You Need Both
"Reward" & "Recognition" are terms often viewed as the same, when they should really be considered independently. Recognition procures a psychological response, while Reward indicates a financial or tangible perk/benefit. Of course, these terms can be used in tandem and often are.
Employee Reward Programs
Employee reward programs involve the system "set up" by an organization to motivate, inspire and reward its employees. This workplace motivation strategy is considered separate from salary and is used to reach strategic goals set by an organization. Generally, it is performance based, and rewards tie directly to employee performance. Most reward programs are measured in reward points, redeemable for various reward merchandise and travel. A proper program increases sales and productivity, reduces costs, and addresses anything else a company may be struggling with.
Employee Recognition: Not Just Something Nice to Do
Employee recognition programs include a system "set up" by an organization to recognize the desired behavior conducive to the company's business objectives and to encourage more of the desired behavior. A proper program improves attitudes, satisfies recognition needs, creates pride, reduces turnover, creates a positive work environment and adds to the bottom line. In a recognition program, all employees have the same opportunity to receive recognition.
Give Your Best Employee's What They Really Want
While you may have good intentions, if you present your best employees with the traditional clocks, plaques or logo jewelry, you simply will not get the same excited reaction as you would if you offered them a lifestyle gift of their choosing.
You would be surprised to know that the cost of these traditional items used in most recognition programs is the same or less than using more popular and practical items such as electronics, tools and hardware, sporting and household goods, spa experiences and travel.
